The hair of these animals is long, silky, fine, and abundant. They come in a variety of colors, such as tordillos, chestnut, red, rosillos, brown, black, grullos, palominos, and bay. Pinto and appaloosas colors are not common for this breed.

These stallions resemble their Andalusian ancestors in their straight or slightly convex profiles, well-arched necks, and abundant manes. Aztecas should have well developed shoulders and medium withers. The chest should be deep and the back should be short and straight. The legs must be formed well, strong and straight.
