Common ailments in domestic cavias include diarrhea, scurvy, respiratory infections, abscesses and infections caused by such parasites as lice, mites or fungus. Ringworm is a skin disease caused by a fungus similar to the one that causes athlete's foot in people. This condition is common in the species and usually affects young animal. The disease leads to shedding on the face, nose and ears. Mange mites is also a common cause of fur loss. These parazites are not visible to the naked eye.
