The majority of pet animals are a descendant of the “Chapman Chinchillas.” In the wild these animals feed on roots, bulbs, and mosses whereas in captivity they eat cubed hay, rolled oats, raisins, nuts, and cookies. Nowadays the animals are bred in captivity and kept as pets.

These sweet animals have long ears, large eyes and bushy tails. Their tails look like squirrels’ tails. They weigh 18-35 ounces. They are 8-15 inches long. The average live span of these animals is 8-10 years in the wild, in captivity they can live much longer. Females of these rodents usually give birth to two babies once a year.
