Their coat is soft and dense and silver-gray. The length of head and body is 10 inches and the tail is an additional 7 inches and the weight is about a little over one pound. The female has six nipples and can have three litters consisting of one to six young. Chinchilla breeders often sell the baby animal rodents as pets.
