Exact origin for longhair felines are unknown, however, it is believed they were conveyed from to Europe from Asia circa 16th century. Their wild ancestors are short coat; hirsute is a recessive trait. Selective breeding has developed a variety of breeds today.

Adapted for cooler temperatures, a hirsute feline may require a little more attention in the summer. But general care does not significantly vary from a small coated feline.
