All three varieties of these dogs are stocky and muscular animals. They are not large, but their weight is rather impressive for their size. The English variety of the breed measures from 13 to 15 inches at the shoulders and weighs up to 50 pounds. The main characteristics of this breed are a large heavy head with a protruding lower jaw and a short muzzle. The head and face are heavily wrinkled. The coat is short, and lying close to the body.
